Back in high school, we had to make an “emblematic image,” which is a very dramatic way of saying: please create something artsy and hope it means something.
I wasn’t exactly a poetry prodigy at seventeen, but this little piece surprised me.
“Guardian Angel”
Messenger of God,
You are beautiful,
Good, and
Innocent. Your
Radiant light shines
From your robe
So very
White.
Please come down from Heaven and watch
Over me. Protect me from all
The dangers of the Devil.
O, Holy Angel, I
Love you.
I can feel your
Goodness flowing over
Me like a wave upon the
Sand. You speak your wisdom
In silent words that only I can
Hear and understand. When I am
Lonely, you come to comfort me.
When I sleep, you watch over me.
Thank you, Guardian Angel, you
Give me peace, love, and hope
Each day. “Never leave me,” I pray.
